Our story

From a Moroccan souk to a Colorado front door

BohoBarks began in Morocco, with a stack of collars bought from artisans in the souk. The patterns were the same diamonds and zigzags woven into Berber rugs, and they looked better on a dog than anything we could find at home.

Every collar is still made by hand in Morocco, in small batches, and shipped from our home in Durango, Colorado.

How each collar comes together

Four steps, all of them by hand.

  1. 01

    The weave

    Berber carpet is woven in wool, in the diamonds, chevrons and lattices of Moroccan rugs.

  2. 02

    The inlay

    A strip of the weave is set into a channel along the front of a leather strap.

  3. 03

    The stitch

    Both edges are stitched in contrast thread, locking the weave flush with the leather.

  4. 04

    The finish

    A brass-tone buckle and D-ring, punched holes for fit, and a last check before it ships.
